FALL FUN DAY 2009
On Sunday October 18th, 2009 the New York Percheron Association conducted a Fall Fun Day. The event took place on Devenpeck Road, in the town of Root at the home of Tim and Linda Tangen. We were fortunate that the weather man was wrong. The sun came out, but the air was brisk. The day started out with coffee, hot choc and cider doughnuts provided by Tom Sposato, Amanda Mercer, and Bruce and Ellen Sposato. People came from all over, and as far as Walcott, NY. Over 70 people attended, with some bringing in their teams of Percherons to give rides around the block. Also some rode horses to guide the way.

When we returned home, a dish to pass was held in the garage which was decorated in fall colors. Everyone enjoyed the hot dishes, and the dessert table. Some people chose to buy merchandise, such as sweatshirts, coffee cups, hats and jackets. Other people gathered around a warm fire to enjoy conversation, some s'mores, and just relax. Children gathered around a tree with pumpkins ready to paint to their own liking. There were many who tried to paint horses on them resembling our Percherons. It was great to see some adults try their hand at it also.

Another station was set up with an old fashion corn sheller. Several people enjoyed turning the wheel to see the kernels separate from the cobs, and filling the buckets. Blue Jays enjoyed the remains, I’m sure for weeks to come.

The Big Thriller was the 2 cider press’s. Seth and Alisha Finch brought theirs, while many people gathered to see the cider squeezed out. Tim Tangen made his press from scratch, this really impressed people to see his invention work. Apples were brought in by many people to make, and take home their cider.

At 1:00, Janette Peeters our President made a last call for the 50/50 raffle, a ticket was drawn by guest~ Lynn Trudell and the big winner was Deb Sherman. Thank you to all who participated. Following the 50/50, our Big Raffle took place, with Gianna Leffingwell, Queen of the NYPA, pulling out the tickets to see who were the winners. This raffle started in the early spring with a lot of people putting in time to sell tickets for many months.
