2010 ANNUAL PICNIC

Thanks to Jim Kehoe we were able to purchase these t-shirts for our youth who attended our clinic in May. On the back of the shirts were names listed who donated.
On Sunday, June 6th the NY Percheron Assoc. had their annual picnic at the home of Art and Marianne Ospelt. It was kind of them to offer their home to us and provide the chicken BBQ. (Thank you.) The weather was cool but the atmosphere was very warm. Many people came from all over New York to enjoy the food, auction, conversation and our meeting. We started the meal with a word of prayer led by Tim Tangen. Many people brought covered dishes which was great and we thank them for helping out. Our dessert table was filled with many varieties of yummy foods.
Following our dinner we had our meeting with an election of officers where our present director Dick Canniff was reinstated and our Queen Gianna Leffingwell passed her crown to our new Queen Lauren Zimmer. Congratulations to both of them on their new terms of office. A big thank you goes out to Gianna Leffingwell for her outstanding job as former queen.
After our meeting we had an auction which is a big highlight for the day. Art Ospelt was our auctioneer and Lauren Waite assisted him. A good time was enjoyed by all with a lot of items for everyone to put to use in some sort of way.
Last of all we like to thank all our officers and directors for all the hard work that was put in to the NYPA for this last year of service. The biggest THANK YOU GOES TO JANETTE PEETERS. She has put hours and hours of time, road running, planning, and when things get tough she pulls it together for us. She stands by our queens when at shows to assist them in any way to make it enjoyable. Janette Peeters has promoted the Percheron breed and made the NYPA what it is today. Make sure you take the time to say thank you.

JUST A HORSE
From time to time, people tell me,
"lighten up, it's just a horse," or,
"that's a lot of money for just a
horse".
They don't understand the distance
traveled, the time spent or the costs
involved for "just a horse." Some of my
proudest moments have come about with
"just a horse."
Many hours have passed and my only
company was "just a horse," but I did
not once feel slighted. Some of my
saddest moments have been brought about
by "just a horse," and in those days of
darkness, the gentle touch of "just a
horse" gave me comfort and reason to
overcome the day.
If you think it's "just a horse," then
you will probably understand phrases
like "just a friend," "just a sunrise,"
or "just a promise."
"Just a horse" brings into my life the
very essence of friendship, trust, and
pure unbridled joy. "Just a horse"
brings out the compassion and patience
that make me a better person. Because of
"just a horse" I will rise early, take
long walks and look longingly to the
future.
So for me and folks like me, it's not
"just a horse" but an embodiment of all
the hopes and dreams of the future, the
fond memories of the past, and the pure
joy of the moment.
"Just a horse" brings out what's good in
me and diverts my thoughts away from
myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand
that it's not "just a horse" but the
thing that gives me humanity and keeps
me from
being "just a woman/man."

In Memory of Doug Greavette (Facebook photos)
I would like to thank each and every member for the kind words and prayers during this difficult time.
Some of you knew Doug well, others not so much. But I’m sure when I mention the big Canadian man, that was always parked by the riding ring at Cortland Sale, usually with a drink in his hand, a big smile on his face, and a crowd of people around him, you remember.
He loved the Cortland Sale. We talked about it and the people we met all year. When we first decided to show at Syracuse, we were worried that we wouldn’t know anyone. As soon as we pulled in, all our friends from Cortland Sale, greeted us and showed us around, made us feel welcome. Needless to say we were hooked after that.
Whenever we got a newsletter, Doug would say to me ‘We should go to this event or that event’, but time and distance always made it hard to get away. He truly enjoyed his time with his U.S. friends.
I doubt State Fair and the Cortland Sale will be the same. I hope we will be telling stories of Doug’s antics for years to come.
I hope to come to State Fair this year and Cortland Sale. Doug would be mad if I didn’t. It is going to be difficult for me though. It won’t be the same for me, but I think you, as our friends will make it easier for me. For which I will be thankful.
Yours sincerely,
Christine Jameson
